The idea
We, Marie-Theres Richtsfeld and Marie-Kristin Burger, met at the beginning of our studies in Elementary Music and Dance Pedagogy (EMTP) at the Orff Institute Salzburg. Working with new media in an educational context quickly became one of our main focuses. The idea of developing a podcast or an audio book for children became more and more concrete due to the current teaching situation. In addition, we are convinced that regardless of face-to-face or distance learning, we believe that an audio format offers a great enrichment for children's musical experiences.
The transfer of the diverse and holistic principles of EMTP as well as the active participation of the listeners was very important to us in the development process of the project.
What we want to achieve with our projects:
-
Arouse curiosity about music and its variety of sounds
-
Experience music, dance and language without being tied to a screen (as is often the case with digital offerings)
-
Experimenting with your own voice
-
Promote concentration and listening skills
-
Active participation in the musical actions in the radio play
-
Experience basic principles of music
-
Expand song repertoire
The target group
The musical audio play is intended for children aged 5-8 years.
When working with this age group in particular, it is extremely important that they identify with themes from their everyday lives or a suitable and age-appropriate fantasy world. We therefore decided to create a series of 10 episodes in which the story is told. A main character, called Dodo, leads the children through various musical themes and tasks together with a narrator.
The action deliberately takes place in a fantasy world, for example in countries like Harmonia or Flautania, in order to be free of country-specific clichés.
The story:
Dodo lives in a country where music has gradually disappeared and no one knows how to make music anymore. Dodo decides to search for the lost music. On her journey she visits a wide variety of countries, each of which is characterized by its musical focus and parameters.
Blog
In addition to the audio play, this homepage was published. There, children and parents will soon find our compositions, other game ideas and materials for the episodes, singalongs and much more. There will also soon be an area for educators and interested visitors with additional subject-specific materials and information.
